I see your lips move
But I cannot hear a thing
I look unseeingly through you
At what used to be a beauty
And I see instead …
Such distorted ugliness
I wince
You reach out your hand
I shrink back
You want a hug
I am too broken to offer even that
I’m happy
And I’m sad
You used to leave
In your trail
Blood …
Hurt …
Pain …
You cannot do that
You cannot make me cry
Not anymore
Now
There’s neither laughter
Nor tears
All I have got now
Is a dead weight
Numb and heavy
Enough to sink me
– and what used to pass
For tear ducts
My mistakes
I see them all in you
I hear them scream
Calling out my name
Reaching out savagely
To draw me in
I wonder
Why I still pick your calls
Why I talk to you
I do not miss you
I do not long to hear your voice
But then
I realize
That seeing you
Gives me the will
To right my wrongs
By Wolfe
Nice one Wolfe.
I guess you are talking about Domestic violence?
Well, that could be one way of seeing it. But methinks Wolfe is talking more about Emotional abuse. Thank you for reading. Have a nice day Chizzy.
I see so much in this poem. A lot of feelings, all of them deep and powerful at once that the writer is at a loss how to say it all. I’ll just wait for Walter’s review, this one should be interesting 🙂
Yes dear,
I had to read again.
Poetry indeed helps one to express deep feelings and emotions
Oh but it sure does. Methinks Wolfe is brave; it is stone-cold bravery baring one’s deeps in this manner
Well…Chizzy, the poem was written with emotional abuse in mind. But then reading it now, I daresay it could apply to domestic violence as well as a couple of other issues.
Then, I believe every poem carries with it a lot of feelings…the writer’s feelings.
…n I think the beauty of poetry is the ability of the writer to create a picture so clear in the readers minds with just words.
Finally, words are work sha.
…n every writer is brave. 🙂
“My mistakes…i see them all in you” That line got me. to pick the call when u do not long for the voice. i know.
You know? Hmmm, Ezinma, shebi you will tell us more … sometime? 🙂
When love goes wrong and there’s a massive fall-out between the ‘once-upon-a-time’ lovers; the line between love and hate become so much more glaring that one would wonder how something so beautiful one moment, could turn real hideous; the next! Its crazy but the scenario painted here by the Poet happens ever so often! It gets real bad when one person’s taken for a ride by the other, cause feelings are not matched up and aren’t flowing both ways as they oughta! The Poet’s still trapped by the love and chained to the side of this beloved obviously, since he/she has failed to severe ties completely! Moving on can only be complete when he/she dissociates from the one who’s taken him/her for granted for so long! It wont be easy, cause some feelings are difficult to shake off! But then, once a person’s able decide that enough is enough and that they’re deserving of a better treatment, moving on should proceed gradually and smoothly! Regrets and mistakes according to sultry songstress Adele, are memories made! On the bright side, the one who was wronged is been brought up to speed what a good relationship does not entail and is better informed too! There are lessons to be learnt and taken away from all of life’s experiences!
Lovely piece, thanks for sharing Chisom! Shalom! LOL
Yemie always on point
