Poets’ Thursday: He that hath ears …

Poets' Thursday

Keep your heart immune

To the whispers of the wind

And find not yourself wishing

That life has a rewind

Take whatever you hear

With a tiny pinch of salt

And half of what you see

With a tiny pinch of salt

The rumors fly past

Laden with lies

They’re set on autopilot

With quiet disguise

The heart of man is wicked

And laden with evil

It eats him up slowly

Like beans with weevil

Up! Up! Up! Every morning

Divorce your slumber

Whisper words to the lord

To help you see yonder

Take a step of faith

Avoiding all blunders

Then keep the whole world

Watching in awe and wonder

Repent of all your sins

And avoid his wrath

Sober up not with beer

But with a can of malt

Your mind is your weapon

If tuned with precision

Your heart a wounded comrade

With an unwanted incision

A penny for your thoughts

A nickel for your smile

What I’d pay for your pain

If it won’t last a while
